When it comes to Toronto fashion bloggers, we're generally known for showcasing outfits, brunch spots, and cafes. Of course this list isn't exclusive but from what I can see from my community of bloggers, that's generally what our main focus is. As a blogger myself, I take some pride in the fact that if you gave me any downtown Toronto intersection, I can probably name you a bunch of cafes in that vicinity by heart. But I would never dare consider myself a coffee connoisseur--although I can confidently tell you about the cafe's aesthetics and lighting, because I mean that's what makes it "ig-worthy" right? Haha
But as I said, I'm really not that knowledgeable when it comes to the very core of cafes--the coffee. And to be honest, I think it's safe to say that most of us "bloggers" aren't. This is something that didn't really cross my mind, not until I started getting involved and working with the coffee community. I was fortunate to have a friend, who also happens to be my boss, who introduced me to this whole other side of cafes that I don't normally encounter.
Knowing that I live and breathe social media and pretty lattes, he asked if I wanted to join in on helping organize and promote a latte art competition. Needless to say, I was 150% interested. And that is how I stepped foot into a whole new world of coffee.
The competition, named the Latte Art Open, happened just this past weekend and was hosted by Toronto Coffee Fest, which in itself is a brand new coffee community that they are hoping to grow. Despite being the first event of TCF, the Latte Art Open was a huge success. With close to 50 competitors, I got to experience two busy, and of course fun, days of latte art, and latte art, and more latte art. Through this event, I was able to meet so many wonderful people, from baristas, to roasters, to cafe owners, to coffee journalists, and I was blessed to have the chance to work with them.
If you missed the Latte Art Open this time, keep your eyes open for the next event! Nothing is set yet, but surely there will be more caffeine-filled events...and I'll be crossing my fingers that I get to help out again :)
