Happy New Years, everyone!
Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and are back to the grind. When it comes to New Years, there's one phrase we hear a little too often—My New Year's resolution. And there's nothing wrong with this. There's nothing wrong with going into the new year with some shiny goals.
But here's the thing. I personally don't really believe in New Year's resolutions. New Years is, essentially, a social construct. To us, it seems like time cycles and that each January is a fresh start, a renewal of a year. But really, it's just another month, another day towards the future. I just don't see the rationality, or appeal, in waiting until New Years to step foot towards a new goal. Why not start now? Why not better yourself today? But that being said, I don't think it's bad to set goals for the New Year. The only issue I have with this is that it's become more of a fad. I once heard someone say, "a New Year's resolution is a goal that you propose and then forget the next day". And honestly, there is a lot of truth to that. So, instead of New Year's resolutions, I like to think of it more as an intention. An objective. Not something that I aspire, but something that I plan to get done. And that's why I don't believe in waiting until New Years to start. I'm going to start as soon as I can to put myself a step ahead.
So, what are my objectives? Well, for one, it's to successfully finish my Postgraduate program and land a full time job in something I love. I used to be so hung up over trying to get a job that'll make good money, that'll impress my parents. I've already made my first move towards this objective by getting into a Digital Media Marketing program. Something not so appealing to a traditional asian family, but appealing to me. I'm going to graduate and find a job that I enjoy for myself. I don't know exactly what that job might be yet, but I plan to find out.
What do you intend to do this year? Set them, and make them.
Let's make 2018 amazing.
Love, Lena
